Procedure:
Provide students with the definitions of primary and secondary resources:

A primary source provides a firsthand account of events recorded during or shortly after
the events described occurred.

A secondary source of information is one that was created later by someone who did not
experience first-hand or participate in the events
Have students brainstorm different types of documents that would fit into each category.
Provide all students with a copy of the Primary and Secondary source Analysis worksheets, as well as the article The Sorm: A First-Hand Account of Katrina located at http://www.gwu.edu/~bygeorge/oct1905/letter.html and instructions on How to Prepare for a Hurricane at http://life.familyeducation.com/hurricane/emergency/34259.html.
As a group, determine which document is a primary resource and which is a secondary resource.
